Four key areas & players Killie should look at this January transfer window

With a free weekend, it seemed like a reasonable opportunity to take a look at some of Kilmarnock's recruitment needs in the coming weeks.

The January transfer window is now 11 days old, and while it’s been a quiet start to the month, rumours surrounding Kilmarnock’s business are starting to swirl.

Those with their eyes peeled online will have noticed that Leon King of Rangers and former Motherwell striker Theo Bair are just two of the names some have touted with a switch to Ayrshire.

With a free weekend, it seemed like a reasonable opportunity to take a look at some of Killie’s recruitment needs in the coming weeks.

Of course, I’m not suggesting all of these positions will be filled, or indeed any of these players will be signed. It’s all purely suggestive and in no particular order of priority.

Additionally, players need to be moved out before any can come in with little to no wriggle room in the budget.

Derek McInnes and his recruitment guru Russ Richardson will have had their targets in mind for some time now. Hopefully, as the month progresses we can start to see their plans fall into place.

Here’s a look at the areas of the team I feel need bolstering…

Right-back

Calvin Ramsay. The right-back is going to leave Anfield on loan this month - and it seems a return to Scotland is his likely destination having already knocked back an approach from St Johnstone.

He joined the Premier League giants from Aberdeen for £4.2m a few years ago. Sadly for him, injuries have badly curtailed his progress, with loans at the likes of Preston and Bolton not working out for the 21-year-old.

The right-back would’ve been in the Dons academy set-up during McInnes’ time in the north-east, so there is that obvious link coupled with Richardson’s connections to Liverpool’s academy.
