It’s been a rollercoaster week for Jack Burroughs since he joined Kilmarnock on a season-long loan.

The right-back, 23, was signed by Derek McInnes late on Tuesday night as the Killie boss finally signed a player to cover what had previously been a problem position.

The Coventry defender was thrust into the deep end as he started on the right wing for the Rugby Park side in Copenhagen at the Parken Stadium last Thursday. He then started in midfield for Killie at Pittodrie on Sunday.

The former Scotland Under-21 international is determined to continue the club’s European tour for as long as possible. That means overcoming a 2-0 deficit at home to the Danes tonight.

It’s been billed as one of Killie’s biggest games in 60 years, with famous ties against Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt mentioned by the club’s in-house media team as part of their promotion of the second leg. Burroughs is relishing the occasion.

He said: “My agent spoke to me a couple of times throughout pre-season. I can't really put a time on it, but the actual process for coming up here was quite fast. It all happened in a couple of days.

“When you have games this close together, you're always looking to the next one. But it's been nice to reflect on what I have done in the last week. It gives you a lot of confidence to go into games of tonight’s magnitude and go into it thinking you can do well.

“It's weird to come into, because I've come in the latter stages of the qualifying campaign and the lads have put in such a great shift to get to where we are now.

“It's nice to be able to contribute in this last game, which will be the final step into getting into the league phase. From there we can push on and hopefully have six more nights of what we'll have tonight.

“We all went to visit the Parken the day before and were like ‘Wow, this is proper here’. It's a proper stadium, playing against a proper team and a really good competition.
