Kilmarnock free agents latest & team news pre-St Mirren
Paul Sheerin stepped in for media duties this week, as the assistant manager answered questions on Wednesday.
Kilmarnock won’t be ‘ignorant’ when it comes to looking for free agents now that the transfer window is closed.
Derek McInnes made it no secret that he wanted to strengthen his squad on deadline day a couple of weeks ago following their elimination from Europe.
However, the efforts of the manager and his recruitment chief, Russ Richardson, didn’t bear fruit, and it was a quiet evening with no activity at Rugby Park.
While the window is shut and it’s been made known that the budget is spent, Paul Sheerin insists that if the right player is interested in joining, and the club wants to do a deal, they’ll try their best to make it happen.
“I think if the right one was to come up,” Killie’s assistant said. “The manager was keen to improve, obviously, he was keen to improve on the squad a couple of days before the window. And as you said, it didn't happen.
“It has to be the right type of player in the right position obviously, which becomes a bit more difficult when they're free agents. But I'm sure if something came up, they wouldn't be ignorant enough to ignore that.”
Sheerin confirmed that Liam Donnelly will miss this weekend’s game. The midfielder picked up an injury after coming off worse in a 50-50 challenge in the Europa Conference League play-off second leg against FC Copenhagen.
Brad Lyons will serve the second match of his two-game suspension following a red card against Aberdeen last month, while Robby McCrorie is firmly back in contention for a start.
“Donners [Liam Donnelly] is still struggling,” the 53-year-old said. “We were hoping that he would make Saturday but unfortunately, it's just come a wee bit early so he'll miss out. Other than that I think we're okay.
