It’s been a while since jokes were cracked about Derek McInnes and his tombola regarding his Kilmarnock team selection.
In each of the last three matches, the 53-year-old has made five changes to his starting XI against Celtic, Tromsø and St Johnstone.
Given the nature of the team’s start to the season, particularly domestically, those sorts of shouts have returned from the paying Killie punters - who rightfully have a gripe or two with how the last two matches at Rugby Park have played out.
The likes of Rory McKenzie, Fraser Murray and Innes Cameron were handed starts at the weekend, however, Joe Wright’s early red card put paid to the effectiveness of many of these changes.
Tonight, it’s off to the Romssa Arena in the Arctic Circle as we look to progress to the play-off round of the Europa Conference League - putting us just two matches away from the game-changing money league phase football would offer.
Back to basics would be my thinking if I was in the manager’s shoes.
