Why Killie beating Rangers is special & should not be viewed as routine
Killie made it six wins out of their last 10 home matches against the Ibrox side with a 1-0 win on Sunday.
Routine, run-of-the-mill and bog-standard.
These are just some of the phrases I’ve seen used or heard uttered by Kilmarnock fans when describing the team’s 1-0 victory over Rangers last weekend.
Marley Watkins’ strike in the 87th minute was enough for Killie to claim back-to-back victories in the Scottish Premiership for the first time since April this year.
The striker latched onto a long hook over the top with David Watson’s first touch of the ball since the academy graduate came off the bench in the dying embers of the match. He shrugged off John Souttar and dispatched beyond the on-rushing Jack Butland to send the near 5,000 Killie fans in attendance into raptures.
It marked Killie’s SIXTH win against Rangers in the last 10 matches at Rugby Park between the sides, with two draws thrown in for good measure too.
Yes, you read that right.
So, the obvious conclusion to draw is that it is no longer a shock when Ayrshire’s finest manage to get one over the blue half of the Old Firm - albeit, some media outlets would clearly disagree.
